Ryan Reynolds Says He's Taking a 'Sabbatical from Movie Making' After Wrapping Latest Film

Ryan Reynolds just finished making his next movie, but don’t expect him to go to work anytime soon.

The 44-year-old actor took to his Instagram account on Saturday (October 16) to announce that he wrapped production on the upcoming film Spirited. He also said that he’s going to be taking a break from movie making.

Spirited is an upcoming Apple TV+ holiday movie also starring Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer. The movie musical is a re-imagining of A Christmas Carol with Ryan as Ebeneezer Scrooge and Will as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

“That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago,” Ryan said. “Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer.”

Ryan added, “Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists. These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”

Ryan‘s wife Blake Lively trolled him in the comments by saying, “Michael Caine did it first.” She’s referring to the actor’s announcement that he’s retiring, though his reps later said that he’s actually not going into retirement.
