Fans know Kal Penn from his roles in the Harold & Kumar film series and the NBC sitcom series Sunnyside. Now, he’s releasing his new book “You Can’t Be Serious” next month!

The 44-year-old actor, who served as a White House staff member in the Barack Obama administration, has written a candid memoir that features a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from his idiosyncratic life.

  1. I once convinced two West Point athletes to get matching tattoos in honor of the world’s largest radio telescope.
  2. One of my proudest accomplishments is winning an episode of Celebrity Master Chef.
  3. I’m trilingual (English, Gujarati, and Hindi) and love being able to communicate in different languages.
  4. I’m happiest in a hoody…with no pants…okay FINE with pajama pants (but actually no pants).
  5. I took a two-year break from acting to work at the White House for President Obama.

  1. Tacos are the perfect food, end of conversation.
  2. I was worried I’d get mauled by a cheetah while making Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. We had a scene with a hungry cheetah, and the way Hollywood makes cheetahs look hungry on camera is to not feed them dinner until after the shoot. I just didn’t wanna be its dinner.
  3. I love public transit, especially the New York City subway.
  4. Charlie Puth, Melissa Rauch, Idina Menzel, and Bruce Springsteen are all from the same town in New Jersey where I grew up.
  5. I’ve always loved to read books, so I’m especially excited to share one that I wrote!
