Leos are known as the attention-seeker of the zodiac, with some who were born under this sign very much believing that the world is a stage and everybody else is simply part of their audience.

Like the lion that represents their sign, though, Leos can be fiercely loyal and protective.

As we say on each of these pieces, try not to read into your sun sign traits and compatibility as though it’s all you are.

You’re a Leo if you’re born between 23 July and 22 August.

Leo personality traits

It would be remiss to start talking about Leo without talking about their love of drama and attention.

Fire sign Leo is a natural born leader, and loves to show off to their cubs, pride, and beyond.

This might seem like a bad thing on first reading, but there’s nothing wrong with loving the spotlight. Most families and friendship groups benefit from a Leo to power through with optimism and a lust for life and dream-chasing.

Plus, these aren’t just crazy pipedreams. So many actors, singers, and otherwise famous people belong to this sign, proving that self-belief has to go some way towards real-world success.

As a fixed sign, Leo does have the tendency to be hard-headed, and you don’t want to get into an argument with this lion, because they’re charming enough to win – and with their confidence, they’ll still act like they won even if they were wrong.

On the whole, Leo loves to live to the fullest, and their passionate nature means they light up a room. This is perfect for Leo, who are happy to be front and centre in whatever is going on.

Leo compatibility

Leo can be known to be a highly physical sign, and love to flirt and date – as well as often having high sex drives.

Energetic Aries shares this fire, making for an adventurous and fun partnership. Although both are competitive, you should find that an Aries doesn’t mind taking the smaller share of the spotlight for their Leo.

Leo and Gemini are also an amazing match, with mutable Gemini happy to follow fixed Leo’s need to lead (and sometimes be stubborn). With Gem comfortable going with Leo’s flow, this lion will almost compete with itself to ensure they’re always on top of their romantic game. This, in turn, should stop Gemini becoming bored.

Fellow fire sign Libra could be another wonderful pairing with Leo, as Libra loves to care for (and woo) their partner. This will intrigue the Leo partner, who will be happy as long as they have the slight upper hand in the relationship (or at least they feel like they do).
