Adele Faces Backlash Over Notting Hill Carnival Photo - Find Out Why

Adele is facing backlash for the photo she posted over the weekend.

The 32-year-old superstar singer shared a photo of herself in her outfit for the Notting Hill Carnival, which went virtual this year. The annual event is “led by members of the British West Indian community, and attracts around two and a half million people annually, making it one of the world’s largest street festivals, and a significant event in Black British culture,” according to Wikipedia.

Now, Adele is being accused of cultural appropriation for wearing Bantu knots, a traditional African hairstyle.

Many are calling Adele out on her Instagram post, as well as on Twitter.

Twitter users are speaking out with comments like, “Big appropriation vibes Adele …,” and “not adele doing cultural appropriation GIRL.”

However, some are coming to Adele‘s defense, with one Twitter user writing, “The Notting Hill Carnival that takes place at this time of year is a celebration of West Indies heritage in London/UK. Adele grew up in Tottenham, one of the largest Jamaican diasporas in the UK. This seems a strange thing for Americans to now get offended about.”

Adele‘s last photo she posted did not create much controversy as it honored a fellow artist.
