Rupert Grint Joins 'Harry Potter' Co-Stars in Denouncing J.K. Rowling's Anti-Trans Commentary

Rupert Grint is speaking against J.K. Rowling‘s anti-trans rhetoric over the past week.

After his co-stars, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, voiced their support of the trans community and disagreement with the Harry Potter author, the 31-year-old actor, who played Ron Weasley, is now doing the same in a statement on Friday (June 12).

“I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment,” he said in a statement to The Times.

After setting off outrage with tweets, J.K. Rowling wrote a lengthy essay addressing claims that she’s transphobic, in which she further enraged many people: “I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman – and, as I’ve said, gender confirmation certificates may now be granted without any need for surgery or hormones – then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside. That is the simple truth,” she wrote in the essay.
